As I said before, the small number of you who keep barking about 1 socialist malay woman being a hero astounds me; this is a person who MURDERED hundreds of policemen who were not only malaysian, but performing their duties and you want to talk about her kicking out the british and being a hero?

...ko jan marah kalu sia copy n paste statement kau ahhh.

Samada dia bantu halau british ka, bunuh british ka...the point is that dia adalah seorang KOMUNIS !!

Kedua dua ada keburukan; the lesser of two evils doesn't mean its still okey to support it.

Democracy is still the best choice for us, in my opinion, because you get to vote and you get to have a say. In communism, no such thing. One man decides. One man controls. And the welth is divided amongst the masses, for the good of all BUT, it means wealth is frowned upon and you can never make enough money to buy a nice car, nice house or travel overseas because to have wealth is against the principles of communism.

It is a radical version of socialism.

Explain something to me: WHY would UKM publish a book about a communist insurgent who is BANISHED from Malaysia for over 30 years and who HATES UMNO (and all that UMNO stands for)? Use your brains a bit laaaa....

How accurate is the "interpretation" of the memoirs and how loyal is the ghost writer to the actual "memoirs?"

Kamu ni suka quote tapi sendiri tak pernah baca buka bukanya atau pun FAHAM POLITIKprinsip perempuan ini.

She was anti-UMNO and also anti-british but to say she was fighting colonialism is wrong; the british had ALREADY LEFT when she join the communist party of malaysia and malaysia was INDEPENDENT!

Some of you just quote, quote and quote from blogs and so forth but don't even know what you are talking about nor can you even see whats wrong with the book you are quoting.

DUH!

Silly!

Mat salleh was a bully and took advantage of his villagers as village chief by taxing them (double taxes because the villagers also had to pay taxes to the North Borneo Company).

Do you know where mat salleh was village head? Inanam.

Do you know WHY he ran away from Inanam? Not because he was chased out by the british. He was chased out by his own villagers (some would say typical bajau taking advantage of kadazan dusun; this is a comment I keep hearing when talking with researchers who are not bajau).

And he was EXILED in Tambunan. He didn't go there because people in Tambunan supported him or wanted him there.

And he died because he resisted arrest later.

The only reason Mat Salleh is a "hero" because we don't have many "muslim" hero's in Sabah who are well known; nobody talks about Albert Kwok or many other Kadazan-Dusun, Chinese or Indian Sabahans who died as REAL HERO'S defending Sabah.

You only talk about Mat Salleh because you are told he was a hero in school books and in class. But you know, as much as the next person, next to NOTHING about the real Mat Salleh.

Don't talk to me about him being a "hero" against orang british because he is low class scum to me. Anyone who takes advantage of the poor and the very same people he is supposed to lead is no hero.

Albert Kwok is a real HERO. And I bet you don't even know who Albert Kwok is because you need to google his name to find out who he is. :)

Albert kwok?

If im not mistaken the proffessor that you all mention is Profesor Madya Dr. Danny Wong Tze Ken is,it?

Im sorry to say this, my boss told me (he's from Likas original residence called bajau tuaran, and his great grandfather one of the founder kg.likas). my bos told me, just like this, "panglima sagunting tu sebenarnya samseng, yang peras orang kacau orang di tamu-tamu. mat salleh tu kepala lanun, just bcoz the british company did'nt allow him to collect the tax from villagers (and his taxes is more expensive), he's decided to fight the british company. alasan dia, berjuang menghapuskan penindasan. tapi siapa sebenarnya yang menindas? dulu2 siapa kuat dan ditakuti, dia boleh jadi kaya. dia tu bunuh orang yang menentang dia". Cam tu la lebih kurang dia cakap. Bukan mo memfitnah, tapi bos sia ni smimang urg likas asli very asli and apa lagi selain asli? hehehe.. Dia tau sebab keluarga dia berkait rapat dengan keluarga Mat Salleh ba. dan Mat salleh tu memang anak sorang bangsawan sulu/bajau yang berpengaruh, sudah tentu ramai pengikut dia. kalau nak kira siapa pejuang sebenarnya, kenapa tak angkat martabat Pahlawan2 Double Tenth mcm Albert Kwok, Aki Korom (kami panggil Korom ni Aki atau Datuk (bukan gelaran datuk, tapi org tua), dan Urg2 Bajau, Dusun, Murut,Cina,Kadazan yang mati time tu? Banyak lagi pahlawan Bajau/Suluk, kenapa Mat Salleh ja? pahlawan Bajau Omadal seperti Khatib Sarahari @ Maharaja Mahasari @ Sabhurari tu camana? Apa gelaran untuk tu Pahlawan Semporna tu? Antenom, setakat mana ja? Datuk Seri Panglima? Macam tak pernah dengar pulak Albert Kwok dapat apa2 gelaran (tapi kalau dah ada, sori i x tau hehe). Gunsanad Anak Kina tu camana? Apa gelaran dia? Dia bukannya Anjing British, tapi org yang sanggup berkorban nama demi orang2 dia dan org yg berpandangan jauh, bukan pemeras ugut dan samseng. Buktinya keningau jadi pusat pentadbiran bahagian pedalaman. Tumanggung Kurantud (Aki Kurantud di Kudat) pernah urg dengar? tu pun cucu cicit dia ja kali yg tau cerita pasal dia. edeiiih... ni buku sejarah kadang2 cuma dakyah ja ba..

Fact: Tun Mustapha changed the facts surrounding Mat Salleh, and made him look a "hero" fighting colonialism. That of course, is absolutely wrong, and is backed up with historical material which proves he was a thief, and a leader who double taxed his people and refused to abide by law and order. And also, bear in mind, Tun Mustapha was also related to Mat Salleh.
