Makes no difference. The "a" can be applied if needed.

I didn't know we were back in english 101....amazing!

sepilok went for recess.

the 'a' definitely makes the difference .... having said that ... i can understand why airbus might have said what he said ... but i too initially misunderstood what he was saying so i can't blame Don for replying as he replied.

apa pun lets go back on track shall we?

Sorting and keying out beetles finally drove me mad – so had to go for a run. After that I couldn't be motivated to come back to work.

Airbus is right.

When it comes to nationality – there appears to be no hard and fast rule about using indefinite articles such as "a/an". I checked two writing guides for Uni students – one recommended using indefinite articles before nationalities (His father was a Pakistani), the other suggest you don’t (His father was Pakistani) – both are correct and mean the same thing.

It is usual to refer to dead people in the past tense (i.e. "was" instead of "is").

However, can see how this could lead to confusion - if you didn't know the bapa Musa was already dead.

Of course no hard feeling - just you had asked.

I agree that the thread needs to get back on track. Which was what exactly?

It seems to have varied from whether the Sabahan Suluk are Bumiputera or PTIs (I gather the concensus was they are Bumis), whether the Sultan of Sulu has a valid claim to parts of Sabah (still no consensus) or whether the CM is part Pakistani or Suluk (Pakistani - I gather), and whether this mixed ancestory effects his eligibility to be CM.
